Then he laid hands on the man’s eyes a second time and he saw clearly;

his sight was restored and he could see everything distinctly.

Reflection
The people bring Jesus a blind man to heal. Jesus takes the man out of the village, proceeding to spit on the man’s eyes and lay his hands on him. When asked if he sees anything, the man says he sees men, but that they look like trees walking. Once again, Jesus lays his hands on the man’s eyes and asks the same question. This time, his vision is restored completely.
The blind man’s healing occurs in stages. He begins to see more clearly and correctly with the help of Jesus. Likewise, we are often blind to the redemptive work of Christ, his love, and his goodness. We do not see the divine clearly. But with Jesus’ help, our hearts and souls are opened to his divine majesty, the truth he presents, and helps us grow in wisdom.
How can we learn to see more clearly and advance in the spiritual life? We can start by allowing Jesus to reduce our blindness little by little. As we come to understand him more, we can grow more deeply in love with him and further root our lives in Christ. Pray for an unveiling in your soul, that Jesus may take away your blindness and reveal himself fully to you.
