The Pharisees came forward and began to argue with Jesus,
mark 8:11
seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him.
Mark 8:11-13
Reflection
The Pharisees come to Jesus to argue and seek a sign from him. Jesus is disappointed and asks why they seek a sign, saying that none will be given to that generation.
Despite witnessing and hearing about Jesus’ many miracles, the Pharisees still demand another sign so they can use it against him. Besides not liking Jesus, they have no faith in what he has already accomplished. Many times, we have little or no faith in the Lord, even if we refuse to admit it to ourselves.
We demand a sign from him, expecting him to instantaneously manifest what we’re asking for. Many times, we do receive signs, just not what or when we expect it. It requires great faith and trust to rely always on God – while difficult, he will award our perseverance.
Reflect on the times you’ve lacked faith, and ask the Lord to strengthen it. Pray for a greater resolve to always trust Jesus, especially when it seems he’s not there. The Lord is always by your side, waiting for you to turn to him and place your trust and faith in him.
Saint of the Day
St. Alexis Falconieri: 1200 – 1310
“I have chosen you to be my first Servants, and under this name you are to till my Son’s vineyard. Here, too, is the habit which you are to wear; its dark color will recall the pangs which I suffered on the day when I stood by the cross of my only Son.”
Blessed Virgin Mary to St. Alexis and other founding members of the Servites
