Gospel Reflection – February 15, 2025

Jesus is with a large crowd and does not want to send them away hungry. He asks the disciples how much food they have – only seven loaves and a few fish. Despite the small number, Jesus gives thanks and blesses the food, then distributes it to the crowd. Afterwards, there are seven baskets of leftovers.

The disciples ask Jesus, “Where can anyone get enough bread to satisfy them here in this deserted place?” We tend to ask a similar question when faced with dissatisfaction and not ideal circumstances. Yet Jesus is the Bread of Life and always satisfies us, even in the most desolate of times.

When we feel abandoned and alone, we must turn to Jesus. He will provide, even if it seems impossible. Like feeding the crowd of 4,000 with a small amount of food, he can do much with little. All we need to do is give him the chance. Open your heart to the Lord and let him fill in those empty and unsatisfied places.
