Reflection
The Pharisees observe Jesus’ disciples eating without first washing their hands, which was considered ritually improper. They question Jesus, and he responds that they (the Pharisees) disregard the Mosaic Law and only care about upholding human tradition.
How many times have we held human precepts and ideas above God and the Church? Many times, we think we’re smarter or wiser than Church authority, and disregard or disagree with certain teachings. However, Jesus reprimands the Pharisees for a similar mentality. Remember, God’s wisdom is far above our own.
Our own logic about proper worship and adherence to Church authority can be skewed and faulty. We do not want to become like the Pharisees, thinking our ways are better than the Lord’s.
Pray for an increase in humility, especially in submitting to God’s commands and his will for your life.
