Gospel Reflection – February 8, 2025

When the Apostles gather to report back to Jesus, he tells them to come away and rest a while. However, the vast crowds see them leaving and follow them. When they arrive, Jesus has pity on the crowds and begins to teach.

When we are weary or overburdened, from whatever it may be, Jesus also tells us to come away and rest a while. He doesn’t expect us to keep going nonstop, even if we’re spreading the Gospel. We all need time to rest in the Lord’s presence and peace, time to reset and rejuvenate.

If you always seem to be in a hurry, eager to move on to the next thing, remember to pause and put yourself in the Lord’s presence, either mentally or physically. Simply be with him and let him put you at ease, no matter the situation.

The Lord offers us this invitation of rest freely – will you take it? Pray for a greater awareness of Jesus and ask for the ability to truly rest in him, letting all your worries subside.

Saint of the Day

St. Josephine Bakhita: 1869 – 1947

“Seeing the sun, the moon and the stars, I said to myself, ‘Who could be the Master of these beautiful things?’ I felt a great desire to see him, to know him and to pay him homage.”

St. Josephine Bakhita
