“Send us into the swine. Let us enter them.”
mark 5:12-13
And he let them, and the unclean spirits came out and entered the swine.
Mark 5:1-20
Reflection
Jesus and his disciples arrive at the other side of the sea, where they are approached by a man possessed with many demons. The demons beg Jesus to not make them leave that territory, so Jesus allows them to enter a herd of pigs, which subsequently are run into the sea and drowned. All the people there are amazed and scared, so Jesus leaves the region.
Jesus’ power and authority are evident in this Gospel. Jesus allows the demons the enter the swine herd, revealing that he has true power over them. When we fear that evil is overtaking the world or that Jesus doesn’t have the power to intervene in our lives, remember this. He is God, and all creatures are subject to him. Christ is victorious in the end, even if in the moment, it doesn’t appear so.
When you feel that Jesus is far away from you in your life, remember that he is always beside you, helping you more than you know. Don’t let your fears and troubles about the world upset you; Christ is king. Pray for an increase in trust and love of the Lord.
