“To what shall we compare the Kingdom of God,
mark 4:30-31
or what parable can we use for it?
It is like a mustard seed that, when it is sown in the ground,
is the smallest of all the seeds on the earth.”
Mark 4:26-34
Reflection
Jesus explains the kingdom of God through several parables. The kingdom grows like seed planted in the soil, yielding fruit. It is like the mustard seed, which although smallest of all seeds, is one of the largest plants.
When we plant the “seed” of the Gospel in someone’s heart, it is comforting to know it has the potential to grow and flourish, even if we never personally see the fruits. Jesus’ description of the seed growing we “know not how” is also comforting, because at times we can feel overwhelmed with spreading the Gospel and trying to make sure it sticks.
Jesus reassures us that his kingdom will spread, even if we don’t understand how it will happen. Trust that the Holy Spirit will guide your words and actions to properly take root where they need to be. Even the smallest act or word of Christian charity can have a large impact on those around us.
