“The measure with which you measure will be measured out to you,
mark 4:24-25
and still more will be given to you.”
Mark 4:21-25
Reflection
Jesus tells his disciples several parables about how hidden and secret things will all eventually come to the light and be known. He also tells them that how they measure will be measured out to them. For those who have much, more will be given, while those who have none, even that will be taken away.
This Gospel speaks about the kingdom of God, which although temporarily “hidden” through parables, will be revealed. With this, Jesus seems to be warning the disciples that they must be aware of how they act, especially towards others. Let us also be aware of our actions and attitudes. Are we kind to everyone, regardless of how they treat us? Or do we retaliate and act rudely? Our “measure” will be given back to us in the end. Jesus knows our hearts; we cannot hide to stop him from knowing our true intentions.
It is important to remember that our actions have consequences. Let’s pray for wisdom in our thoughts and actions, asking the Lord to teach us how to be Christ-like to others and reveal his love to them.
