Gospel Reflection – January 28, 2025

While Jesus is with people in a house, he is told his mother and brothers (cousins) are outside asking for him. Jesus replies that the people with him in the house are his family – for anyone who does the will of God is his mother, brother, and sister.

If we do the will of God, we are Jesus’ brothers and sisters. Of course, as baptized Catholics, we are already adopted sons and daughters of God. But yet again, Jesus is revealing the familial relationship he desires to have with us.

When we follow God’s will for our lives, we grow in relationship with Jesus, thus increasing our trust and confidence in him, as we would with a close sibling. When we sit at Jesus’ feet and constantly stay close to him, doing our best to listen and follow his will, Jesus is pleased.

Pray for a continued development in your relationship with Jesus, asking especially to listen to his will in all things.

Saint of the Day

St. Thomas Aquinas: 1226 – 1274

“The intention of every man acting according to virtue is to follow the rule of reason, wherefore the intention of all the virtues is directed to the same end, so that all the virtues are connected together in the right reason of things to be done, viz. prudence.”

St. Thomas Aquinas, Summa Theologica
