Gospel Reflection – January 27, 2025

Some scribes proclaim that Jesus is possessed by demons, but Jesus pushes back, asking how Satan can drive out Satan. He continues along lines of similar parables and finally tells them that whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven for that sin.

Jesus declares that a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand. We experience this in our own lives in multiple ways – our conscience warring between good and bad choices, our families divided over religion or politics, our friend groups promoting one lifestyle over another. In all these instances, something has to give.

When it comes to matters of faith, let’s pray that the Church and Jesus “win.” We should desire to be in union with Christ, even if we lack complete understanding. He is our guiding light, leading us to fulfillment and completeness. Pray for the strength to follow Christ in all things, and to trust with a total trust.
