Gospel Reflection – January 26, 2025

Jesus returns to Galilee and teaches in many synagogues. When he comes to Nazareth, he also goes to the synagogue and reads a scroll from Isaiah. After reading, he declares to the people that the scripture passage is fulfilled that day.

Jesus fulfills many things in our life – do we pay attention to them? He not only answers our prayers, but also fills our lives with himself, his presence. When we are feeling down or unsure of our faith life, reflect on how Jesus fills us up, especially in ways we don’t expect.

As in Isaiah’s scroll that Jesus read, Christ brings glad tidings to every person. He proclaims that he is Lord and offers his joy to us, if we are open to receiving it. In this way, we allow him to transform our lives and fulfill what he desires to happen to us, leading us to holiness and heaven.

Reflect on how Jesus answers your prayers and how you respond to the way he answers them. Ask for an increase in love and trust of him.

Saint of the Day

St. Timothy: died ca AD 97

“Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by command of God our savior and of Christ Jesus our hope, to Timothy, my true child in faith: grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. I repeat the request I made of you when I was on my way to Macedonia, that you stay in Ephesus to instruct certain people not to teach false doctrines…. The aim of this instruction is love from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith.”

1 Timothy 1:1-3, 5
