Gospel Reflection – January 18, 2025

Jesus calls Levi (Matthew) and eats with many known sinners and tax collectors. The Pharisees see this and ask why Jesus would do that. He replies that the sick need a physician, not the well. He came to call sinners, not the righteous.

Jesus came to call each of us – sinners. We need his healing touch and teaching. Jesus sits with each of us every day offering his love, if we’ll accept it. Even as we grow in holiness, that doesn’t mean we need Jesus less. We come to rely on him more and more, knowing that his love and grace sustain us.

Ask the Lord to come and heal you in the ways you need to be healed – they might even be things you didn’t realize needed his touch. Let Jesus sit at the table with you – listening, loving, and bringing you divine healing.

Saint of the Day

St. Margaret of Hungary: 1242 – 1271

“Many of the people who look forward to a long life put off doing good works, since they think that they will have plenty of time before they die. As for me, I prefer to be among those who consider that they have no time to lose if they wish to give God all the glory that they can before they die.”
