All were amazed and asked one another,
mark 1:27
“What is this?
A new teaching with authority.
He commands even the unclean spirits and they obey him.”
Mark 1:21-28
Reflection
Jesus and his followers enter Capernaum, where they go to the synagogue and Jesus teaches. A man with an unclean spirit begins to yell at Jesus, and Jesus rebukes the spirit and commands it to come out of the man.
The people witnessing these things in the Gospel are astonished and amazed at his teaching and authority. Do we experience those same feelings when we encounter Christ? Jesus works in each of our lives in a myriad of ways – sometimes big, sometimes small. But we can be amazed at his love, generosity, and mercy each time.
Jesus wants to teach us and work in wonderful ways in our lives. He desires to bring us close to him, and at that, we can be not only astonished and amazed, but grateful. Ask the Lord to help you increase your love for him and to continue being awed by his awesome works.
Saint of the Day
St. Felix of Nola: died ca. 260
St. Felix was the assistant of Bishop St. Maximus when Decius began persecutions of Christians. He was imprisoned, but an angel released him from prison. Years later, he was selected as bishop, but declined and instead spent his life sharing his goods with the poor. His tomb became a place of frequent miracles.
St. Felix, pray for us!
