“Lord, if you wish, you can make me clean.”
luke 5:12-13
Jesus stretched out his hand, touched him, and said,
“I do will it. Be made clean.”
Luke 5:12-16
Reflection
Jesus cleanses a man of leprosy. The man asks the Lord that if he wishes, Jesus can make the man clean. Jesus does wish it, and so the man is cured.
The faith of the man with leprosy is beautiful. He is willing to submit to the will of Jesus (God) – either curing him of leprosy or not. Yet clearly the man has faith that he can be cured. Do we have that same faith and trust in Jesus? Are we willing to follow his will, even if it’s not what we want?
This is something we must work on our entire lives – conforming our will to the Lord’s. He knows what’s best for us, and perhaps a cure from sickness or a better financial situation aren’t in your best interests. That’s where faith and trust come in, allowing us to accept and embrace how Jesus works in our lives.
Reflect on how well you entrust your will to Jesus with firm faith. Ask for an increase in faith and trust in the Lord’s plan and will for you.
Saint of the Day
St. Gregory of Nyssa: AD 335 – 394
“We confess that the doctrine of the Lord, which He taught His disciples, when He delivered to them the mystery of godliness, is the foundation and root of right and sound faith, nor do we believe that there is anything else loftier or safer than that tradition.”
