He went around all of Galilee,
matthew 4:23
teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom,
and curing every disease and illness among the people.
Matthew 4:12-17, 23-25
Reflection
Upon learning that John the Baptist has been arrested, Jesus goes to Capernaum and begins to preach. He travels the entire region, healing many people from various areas and teaching about the kingdom of God. Even those from Gentile regions bring their sick to be healed by Jesus.
Jesus is for everyone. His ministry begins in an area that has mingled with Gentiles for years. This beauty of diversity and universality is evident in the Catholic Church. People of all nations and races worship Christ and make up the beautiful body of Christ.
Jesus brings his healing word and touch to everyone, if they are willing to listen. In such divided times, we can bring Christ’s healing love to those who need it. Sometimes simply being a good Christian model to those around is a healing balm.
Reflect on how you bring Christ to others. Are you selective, or do you extend his love to everyone you encounter? Ask the Lord for help in bringing his light, goodness, love, truth, and beauty to the world.
Saint of the Day
St. André Bessette: 1845 – 1937
“When you invoke St. Joseph, you don’t have to say much. You know your Father in heaven knows what you need; well, so does his friend St. Joseph. Tell him, ‘if you were in my place, St. Joseph, what would you do? Well, pray for this on my behalf.’”
St. André Bessette
