Gospel Reflection – January 5, 2025

Today is the feast of the Epiphany, when we celebrate the visiting of the three Magi to Jesus in Bethlehem. They bring gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh, doing homage to our Lord.

We ourselves most likely do not have expensive gifts to offer to Jesus, but there are other ways we can present our treasures to him. You might be able to donate a considerable amount of money to your parish, or perhaps you frequently volunteer your time for various parish causes. You might also use your talents to provide music ministry at Mass or are a lector. Perhaps you attend weekly Adoration and sit with Jesus, praying and giving your all to him during those moments.

Whatever your particular ‘treasure’ is, offer it to the Lord! He endowed you with many gifts, and we must use them for his greater glory. Reflect on how you can better offer yourself fully to Jesus. Start by presenting yourself at his manger, like the Magi, and grow from there. Jesus will always support you in your journey to himself.

Saint of the Day

St. John Neumann: 1811 – 1860

“Everyone who breathes, high and low, educated and ignorant, young and old, man and woman, has a mission, has a work. God sees every one of us; He creates every soul for a purpose.”

St. John Neumann
