Jesus turned and saw them following him and said to them,
john 1:38
“What are you looking for?”
John 1:35-42
Reflection
John the Baptist and two of his disciples see Jesus, and when John declares that Jesus is the Lamb of God, the two disciples go and follow Jesus. They reside with him for the day, and later, Andrew brings his brother Simon to Jesus, who renames him Peter.
When the two disciples follow Jesus, he asks them what they’re looking for. Not who, but what. Jesus asks us the same question – what are we looking for? Happiness, prestige, wealth, a family? Are we in fact looking in all the wrong places and not turning to Jesus like disciples did?
Jesus wants to grant us our desires if they’re in accord with his will. He wants us to draw continually closer to him, for slowly our desires will change from worldly things to eternal ones, and he will be happy to help us achieve them.
What are you seeking? Have you turned to Jesus to ask for assistance, or are you perhaps seeking Jesus himself? Reflect on how you can follow the Lord wholeheartedly and find comfort in how he provides for you.

“God is like a looking glass in which souls see each other. The more we are united to Him by love, the nearer we are to those who belong to Him.”
