“I did not know him,
john 1:31
but the reason why I came baptizing with water
was that he might be made known to Israel.”
John 1:29-34
Reflection
John the Baptist sees Jesus and proclaims that he is the Lamb of God, the Son of God. He tells the people that this is the person he spoke of. John also says that he saw the Spirit come down and remain on Jesus, providing further evidence that Jesus is indeed the Son of God.
Unlike the priests from yesterday’s Gospel, John immediately recognizes Jesus when he approaches him. There is no hesitation in declaring who he is, especially since John also witnessed supernatural events of the Spirit coming to rest on Jesus. Even with this obvious sign and testimony from John, many people did not and still do not believe in Christ.
As Christians, we should testify to the Truth, who is Jesus. Do not deny him to gain worldly popularity or because people you know don’t believe. Let us also be bold like John and bring the good news of Jesus to all we encounter. It can be difficult to do this at times, but ask the Holy Spirit for confidence and courage to gently reveal Christ to all.
Jesus wants to have a deep relationship with all people; let’s bring him to those struggling and help begin that loving journey.
