Gospel Reflection – December 31, 2024

The famous beginning of John’s Gospel is the Gospel reading for today. There is much beauty and wisdom to be unpacked from this text, but let’s focus on a small piece.

The light, the word – Jesus – was in the world and the world came into existence through him, yet the world did not know him. How true this still is. So many in the world do not know, understand, or love our Lord. They choose to ignore his teachings or attack them. Many of us wonder why there is so much evil and distress in the world – here, we see that the world doesn’t truly know Jesus.

And yet, he still chose to save us and sacrifice his life for us. God’s love is unfathomable. He came into the world so that we could have a personal relationship with him – do we cherish that relationship, throw it to the side, or perhaps not even have one?

Reflect on how you can continue to develop your relationship with Jesus and bring our Lord to others so that the world can know him a little more each day.
