Gospel Reflection – December 26, 2024

Jesus tells his disciples about the various ways in which they will be persecuted – handed over by family, led before kings and governors, being hated because of Jesus’ name. Yet he tells them they will be given words by the Holy Spirit to testify rightly, and that anyone who endures to the end will be saved.

As we enter this joyful Christmas season, we still keep in mind our Christian calling of living out our faith boldly and most likely being persecuted in some way for it. Even though we may experience persecution, we can still be joyful because we know that Christ ultimately wins. Indeed, he says that those who endure to the end will be saved.

Endurance can be difficult, especially in the face of adversity. But with heaven as a reward, we should all strive to endure. Ask Jesus to help you maintain a joyful spirit – the spirit of Christmas – throughout the year, even when difficulty and persecution arise.

Saint of the Day

St. Stephen

“Stephen, filled with grace and power, was working great wonders and signs among the people…. But they cried out in a loud voice, covered their ears, and rushed upon him together. They threw him out of the city, and began to stone him. The witnesses laid down their cloaks at the feet of a young man named Saul. As they were stoning Stephen, he called out “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”
