Gospel Reflection – December 22, 2024

The Gospel reading is the same as yesterday – the Visitation. What else can we glean from this passage? Elizabeth tells Mary that she is blessed for having believed the message the angel told her. Because of her belief, she is richly rewarded.

While Mary was sent an angel to deliver a message (an obvious way of God’s communication), we can also experience messages or signs from the Lord, although usually in smaller ways. Just because they might not be as obvious does not mean they don’t occur or shouldn’t be heeded.

The Holy Spirit speaks to us in many ways, different for each person. Pay attention to how the Holy Spirit is nudging you in a certain direction. When you open yourself to actually listening for, hearing, and then acting upon the ways God speaks to you, you’ll grow closer in relationship with him and love. Let Mary help you in your journey towards Christ.

Saint of the Day

St. Chaeromon: died ca. 250

St. Chaeromon was an elderly bishop of Nilopolis in Egypt. When Emperor Trajanus Decius began his Christian persecutions, St. Chaeromon and several companions fled to the desert, where they are believed to have been martyred.

St. Chaeromon, pray for us!
