Gospel Reflection – December 21, 2024

Mary sets out to visit Elizabeth. When they greet each other, Elizabeth’s unborn baby, John, leaps in her womb for joy.

When we encounter Mary in our lives, we should also rejoice. The Mother of our Lord comes to provide assistance, comfort, love, and joy. As our spiritual mother, she desires to bring us to Christ and take us under her mantle.

When we experience times of trial, turn to Mary, for she not only brings comfort, but prayers of intercession to her son on your behalf. Mary makes the journey to visit her cousin – how much more will she ‘make’ the journey to you, a beloved son/daughter?

This Advent, reflect on Mary’s actions and how you can emulate them. If you need her motherly care, know she will be there waiting to pour her graces on you.

“Let my eyes take their sleep, but may my heart always keep watch for you. May your right hand bless your servants who love you.”

St. Peter Canisius
