“For nothing will be impossible for God.”
luke 1:37
Luke 1:26-38
Reflection
We read the Annunciation today, where Mary says yes to being the Mother of God. Like Zechariah, the angel Gabriel visits her and tells her wonderful and miraculous news. Unlike Zechariah, though, Mary doesn’t doubt God’s plan; she merely asks how her conception will occur.
Gabriel tells Mary that nothing is impossible for God. How reassuring that statement is! When we face a situation which seems impossible to us, remember that God can make anything happen. This is why trust, faith, and prayer are important. We can pray to the Lord to increase our trust and faith in him, especially for those impossible-seeming circumstances.
Throughout all of Scripture, we read about the power of God breaking through human barriers – barren/immaculate/virgin conceptions, raising people from the dead, healing lame and blind men, parting rivers and seas. If God can do those extraordinary things, how much can he do in your ‘impossible’ situation?
Ask the Lord for increased trust in him. Talk to him about those situations that seem impossible to face. He will bring about an answer, a solution for you – just perhaps not in the way you expect it.
Saint of the Day
St. Dominic of Silos: 1000 – 1073
St. Dominic was born into a peasant family in Spain and eventually became a Benedictine monk. When he became prior of a monastery, he and the king of Navarre experienced issues over the monastery’s possessions, and St. Dominic was exiled. He then traveled with others to a different monastery, which he reformed and where various healings were reported.
St. Dominic of Silos, pray for us!
