Gospel Reflection – December 4, 2024

Jesus heals many people who come to him, and after three days, tells the disciples he must feed them, for fear they’ll collapse while leaving, and so the miracle of feeding thousands with only a few loaves and fish occurs.

Jesus physically healed those who came to him and did not want to leave them hungry. He does the same for us today, perhaps not always physically healing us, but certainly spiritually and interiorly. Even as he does so, he still desires to give us more, to feed us, so that we don’t “collapse on the way.”

We see this most evidently in the Eucharist. Jesus gives us his literal body as food for our spiritual journey, keeping us nourished even after his initial healing work is complete.

Reflect on how Jesus has personally healed you and how he continues to do so. He doesn’t stop and leave you alone when the initial wound is healed – he maintains the love and care necessary to help you flourish and draw nearer to him daily.

Saint of the Day

St. John of Damascus: AD 645 – 749

“Nothing is more estimable than knowledge, for knowledge is the light of the rational soul. The opposite, which is ignorance, is darkness.”

The Fount of Knowledge, Chapter 1, St. John of Damascus
