Gospel Reflection – November 27, 2024

Jesus explains in more detail what persecution of his followers will look like, where they are taken before synagogues and kings, sometimes even handed over by relatives. Yet Jesus tells them not to worry, for he will provide them with the right words and wisdom in their testimony, and their perseverance will save them.

In today’s world, it can sometimes feel like we are on trial for our faith – put before different powers, such as the government, society, other religions, and even our families. In those moments of persecution, we can remember to call upon the Holy Spirit for guidance. Jesus promises the securing of your life because of perseverance, and this is important to keep in mind, especially when persecution seems constant and leaves you downtrodden.

Ask Jesus for perseverance in faith and trust of him. Ask the Holy Spirit to inspire and be with you throughout your day, especially at the most difficult moments.

Saint of the Day

St. James Intercisus: died AD 421

St. James was a Persian who originally renounced his faith because of persecution. However, he eventually repented and declared his Christian faith to the king, who in turn had him cut into pieces.

St. James Intercisus, pray for us!
