He said, “I tell you truly,
luke 21:3-4
this poor widow put in more than all the rest;
for those others have all made offerings from their surplus wealth,
but she, from her poverty, has offered her whole livelihood.”
Luke 21:1-4
Reflection
Another version of the widow contributing two coins to the treasury is told in Luke’s Gospel today. Jesus says that she offered her entire livelihood, which is a striking statement.
The widow gave her all, in one sense, to the treasury – in turn, to God. Do we give our all to God, our entire livelihoods? Offering our livelihood to the Lord can look different for each person. For some, it might be their monetary wealth. For others, their time and talents to the Church.
We all stand to benefit by totally and completely giving our lives to Jesus – especially by our everyday, common duties and responsibilities. Give your all to him when doing chores, praying, working, or spending time with family and friends. A life dedicated to the Lord is one full of joy, beauty, and goodness.
Reflect on how you can offer your life to Jesus more fully, especially if you’ve been struggling to lately. He wants you to give him your all, for in return, you’ll receive Jesus himself, who satisfies every heart.
