“There will be those who will say to you,
luke 17:23
‘Look, there he is,’ or ‘Look, here he is.’
Do not go off, do not run in pursuit.”
Luke 17:20-25
Reflection
When the Pharisees ask him, Jesus declares that the kingdom of God is already at hand. To his disciples, he says he must suffer greatly and be rejected by that generation.
Jesus also says that many will tell the disciples where Jesus is to be found, but Jesus warns them not to listen. In our day, there are many people who claim that Jesus and his truth can be found here or found there. This usually comes from people of different Christian faiths and religion. Do we listen to those other voices? While they may be well intentioned, they may also be well misinformed.
As Catholic Christians, we are called to respect other Christians, especially because many are genuine in their love for the Lord. But the fullness of truth has already been revealed in the Catholic Church, not in other denominations. The kingdom of God is here, and has been, since the coming of our Lord, and is truly present in the Church he founded.
Besides religion, other worldly things masquerade as being good and holy, as coming from Jesus – we must learn to discern properly, separating Satan’s temptations from Jesus’ truth.
Ask for the wisdom and strength to follow Jesus’ voice, not the other voices that lead us astray. Jesus loves you and wants you to follow him – will you do so?

St. Joseph Pignatelli: 1737 – 1811
“My God, I do not know what must come to me today. But I am certain that nothing can happen to me that you have not foreseen, decreed, and ordained from eternity. That is sufficient for me.”
St. Joseph Pignatelli
