Reflection
Today, Jesus chooses the Twelve Apostles. After a night spent in prayer, he calls his disciples and chooses the Twelve from among them. The image of Jesus retreating to a mountain by himself to pray is a beautiful one to ponder.
One can imagine our Lord knowing that he is going to make this big decision, and so he desires solitude and time with his Father to pray about it. Have you ever spent the night in prayer to God? Perhaps you’ve done nocturnal adoration at church or simply stayed up late at home. When we face big decisions we must make, we may think that’s the only appropriate time to spend ceaselessly praying for an answer or guidance. However, we should always reach out to God via prayer; no matter is too small.
Even when we’re not making important decisions, we can meditate on this image of Christ, kneeling on the mountain in earnest prayer. Join him there and tell him all your worries and desires. Take some time this week to pray in solitude and silence. Place yourself next to Jesus, allowing yourself to be immersed in his immense love for you.
Saint of the Day
Sts. Simon and Jude, Apostles
St. Simon and St. Jude were both Apostles. Not much is known about them, but it is believed they traveled to Persia together preaching the Gospel, and were martyred together because of their faith.
Saints Simon and Jude, pray for us!
