Reflection
A blind man, Bartimaeus, receives his sight from Jesus in the Gospel today. After calling out to the Lord, his plea is heard and Jesus heals him. The blindness Bartimaeus experienced can be thought of as both physical and spiritual. Physically, he was unable to see. Spiritually, he may have been blind in one way or another. Yet Jesus tells him that his faith has made Bartimaeus well, and because of this, Bartimaeus follows Jesus afterwards.
In what ways are we blind to Jesus? Are we spiritually unable to see our sins for what they are? Are we ignorant of certain Church teachings that in turn make us blind to other aspects of our faith? When we cry out to Jesus, he hears us. He wants to open our eyes to see and experience the fullness of truth found in him.
If you are struggling right now, call out to Jesus for the healing you need. You may not immediately be healed or find the answer you desire, but be assured Jesus is with you and comforting you, healing you in ways you can’t imagine.
Ask Jesus to reduce your blindness in spiritual matters. Ask him to increase your faith and open your eyes to his great love for you. When you open yourself to our Lord, you will begin to follow him more fully and closely.
