“You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky;
Luke 12:56
why do you not know how to interpret the present time?”
Luke 12:54-59
Reflection
Jesus tells the crowds they know how to accurately interpret signs pertaining to the weather, but are unable to do the same concerning the present time. Sometimes we are blind to the things that are right in front of us.
When we take great care to worry about and “interpret” innocuous things, like the weather, we tend to ignore more important matters. This might not always be the case, but Jesus’ message is a good reminder to focus on spiritual matters that are right in front of us, too, and also must be interpreted accordingly.
Today, we are constantly confronted with spiritual battles. We must take care to diligently fight against the evil presented to us on a daily basis. With Christ by our side, we can confidently work to resist temptation. There is a battle raging for our souls, and we must be aware and strong in our faith.
We are so good at interpreting all manner of things – people’s speech, motives, literature, TV shows. We must become better at interpreting and recognizing the good and evil we encounter. Ask Jesus to help you stay focused on the spiritual matters in your life. He will reveal to you what truly matters.
Saint of the Day
St. Boniface I: died AD 422
St. Boniface I was elected to the papacy in AD 418. An antipope was also elected at the same time. The antipope seized the Lateran Basilica in Rome after having been ordered not to stay in Rome until the true pope was determined, and so St. Boniface was declared the true head of the Church. His papacy is known for reestablishing organization and control within the Church hierarchy.
St. Boniface, pray for us!
