“Blessed are those servants
Luke 12:37
whom the master finds vigilant on his arrival.”
Luke 12:35-38
Reflection
Jesus tells another parable about faithful servants who await their master’s return. Those servants are rewarded by being served a meal by their master. Jesus is our master and we are his servants – if we serve him faithfully and well, we will be rewarded with a heavenly banquet.
Today’s Gospel should cause you to stop and reflect on your readiness for Jesus’ arrival. It may be at the second coming or at your death. Either way, will you be prepared to meet him? It is never too late to begin cultivating a friendship with Jesus and living a virtuous life. Similarly, it’s never too early, either. Whether you’re younger or older, we all need to focus our time and attention on the Lord.
Most likely, we won’t be 100% ready when we meet Jesus face-to-face. Sin will still weigh us down. But if we start preparing now by developing a prayer life and being intentional about our spiritual growth, those positive steps will please Jesus.
Come up with some concrete ways you can begin or continue to prepare and nurture your faith. Perhaps you incorporate a daily Rosary, volunteer at your parish, or read Scripture regularly. Ask Jesus for assistance in your journey, and he will gladly supply it.
Saint of the Day
St. John Paul II: 1920 – 2005
“The comparison with the Church as the body of Christ, the body of his redemptive and simultaneously spousal love, must leave in the consciousness of the recipients of Ephesians 5:22-33 a profound sense of the ‘sacrum’ of the human body in general, and especially in marriage as the ‘place’ in which such a sense of the ‘sacrum’ determines in a particularly deep way the reciprocal relationships of persons, and above all those of man with the woman as wife and mother of their children.”
