“Rather, blessed are those
Luke 11:28
who hear the word of God and observe it.”
Luke 11:27-28
Reflection
Today’s Gospel is short and sweet, yet it contains an important message. A woman tells Jesus that his mother (Mary) is a blessed woman. However, Jesus replies that the blessed person is the one who listens to him.
Obviously, Mary is highly honored and blessed, but Jesus is telling us that we can also have a special relationship with him by listening and observing his word. It is beautiful that our God allows us to become his adopted children through baptism, so that we can share in the familial relationship that Mary and Jesus have.
It can be difficult to hear Jesus’ voice, either in our daily lives or through Scripture. We may try to ignore it or put off what he is telling us until later. But Jesus wants us to observe his message – meaning take action regarding it. How can we hear and observe God’s voice in our lives?
Reflect on the ways in which Jesus speaks to you, and ask him for courage and strength to truly listen to his words and act upon them.
