Whoever listens to you listens to me.

Whoever rejects you rejects me.

Reflection
In this Gospel, Jesus plainly states that those who listen to him and do not reject him will be in a much better place than those who listen but reject him. This abrupt language causes us to stop and truly listen to Christ’s words.
Do we hear Jesus’ voice through others, the Church, or Scripture, yet openly reject it? What might we be rejecting in those instances? A message that makes us uncomfortable or causes an angry reaction? Ask yourself if the reaction is warranted or if our human way of thinking is clouding your understanding of God’s goodness and plan for you.
Jesus does not want us to reject him. He desires us to listen, love, and trust in him. His warning today is severe because the consequences are severe. We cannot reject Christ or his teachings, even when we don’t understand. The price is too high to pay for selfishness and pride.
Strive to listen to Jesus and ask where he is calling you to trust him more. Sit in silence and listen to the Teacher’s loving and tender voice.
